Easy Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

You can’t go wrong with homemade cinnamon rolls topped with a cream cheese icing. This cinnamon roll recipe is easy to make and perfect for a beginner looking to make their food from scratch. You most likely have everything in your pantry already.

My family has been loving this homemade cinnamon roll recipe with cream cheese icing for months! We have it every Saturday morning (I even sell it to some people in our community)! It’s incredible easy to make and absolutely delicious.

Dough:

  • 3/4 cup warm whole milk

  • 2 1/4 tsp quick rise yeast

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 1 egg, plus 1 egg yolk, room temperature

  • 1/4 cup melted salted butter

  • 3 cups bread flour

  • 3/4 tsp salt

  1. Warm milk for 40-45 seconds. Sprinkle yeast into milk and stir in sugar, egg, egg yolk and melted butter. Combine well.

  2. Stir in flour and salt with a wooden spoon until the dough begins to form.

  3. Knead dough on medium speed until the dough begins to form.

  4. Transfer dough to a well oiled bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and a warm towel. Allow dough to rise for 1-1.5 hours (depends on temperature of your kitchen).

  5. After dough has doubled, roll out to a 14x9 rectangle on a well floured surface.

Filling:

  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar

  • 1 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened

6. Evenly spread softened butter onto dough and leave a 1/4 inch margin on the side.

7. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Use your hands to evenly rub the mixture into the buttered dough.

8. Tightly roll the dough and cut into 9 even (1 inch) sections.

9. Place rolls in a greased 9x9 baking pan. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 30-45 minutes (or put in the fridge if you want to bake later)

10. Preheat oven to 350F. Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes.

11. Allow rolls to cool for 5-10 minutes before frosting.

Cream Cheesing Icing:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 2 tbsp butter, room temperature

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

  • 2 cups of powdered sugar

  • 1-2 tbsp milk

12. Cream cheese, butter, vanilla and salt together.

13. Sift powdered sugar and stir until combines.

(For a thinner consistency, add milk)
