How To Color Rice for Sensory Bins

If you’ve explored the blog a little, you know I’m a big fan of sensory bins. They keep my 2 year old occupied while I get my to-do list done and they have significantly cut down our screen time (win-win).

I kept seeing a lot of sensory bins that had beautifully colored rice in them but all the recipes I found involved paint. I had no interest in that mess so I decided to play around with the food coloring I had in my kitchen!

Perfect color for an Easter sensory bin! She loved to fill the eggs and crack them open into her little pan!

It was so simple to make & Brynleigh was able to help me in making the rice change colors (which she thought was so cool).

It ended up being super simple to make! I think I could have done with a tad less of the vinegar but it still worked great!

In a gallon baggie, add 1 cup of rise then top with tsp of white vinegar and 1/4 tsp of food coloring. Mix it all around. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and let the rise dry overnight!

Told you … simple!

For every 1 cup of rice use 1 tsp of white vinegar and 1/4 tsp of food coloring

Be sure to store in an airtight container, like a big mason jar! If you don’t get them wet, they can last up to a year! If you like budget friendly activities to do with your toddler (specifically 2 year old), stick around!
